Don't Waste Money on Save-the-Date Cards!

When save-the-date cards first came about, they had a definite purpose. Brides- and grooms-to-be sent them to their guests if their wedding took place in a resort town during "season", for example, or near holiday times.

The cards were sent well in advance of the wedding to give guests plenty of notice of the wedding date, since the engaged couple realized that airfare and lodging would be difficult to reserve.

The Evolution of Save-the-Date Cards...

For some reason, save-the-date cards turned into a tradition like wedding invitations. Every bride- and groom-to-be sent them, no matter when their wedding was held. This defeated the purpose of the cards.

Save-the-date cards are expensive. Postage is expensive. Why send them if you don't need to?

Why Use Save-the-Date Cards?

If your wedding doesn't fall near holiday times, or in a resort area in "season", or at any time or place that doesn't require extra time to book airfare or lodging, then don't send save-the-date cards!

Wedding invitations, if they're sent when they should be, give guests plenty of time to respond and to make hotel reservations and travel arrangements.
